“The Economics of Happiness says everything it should say. Ambitiously, it attempts to explain the many downsides of economic globalization, while offering actual alternatives that the viewer can get behind, and (for a movie just a little over an hour long) it does this concisely and without too much dreadful hyperbole or schmaltz…. I can heartily recommend this film as an activist tool.”

Catherine Ingram, author of Passionate Presence, A Crack in Everything, and In the Footsteps of Gandhi, blogs about The Economics of Happiness on the Huffington Post:

"What An Inconvenient Truth did for understanding climate change, a new film, The Economics of Happiness, is sure to do for understanding localization versus globalization. Even for those who are well versed in the negative effects of globalization, this film will further expose the systemic structures that drive the machine. But the film also offers hope in examples of the ways that localization could save us. I know of no other film that so clearly explains both of these divergent paths into the future."

"... according to [Helena] Norberg-Hodge, consumption does not in fact make you happy. Working with the land; doing business on a small, local scale; knowing where your food comes from - that’s what gives life meaning. And, she argues, whether you prefer the word ‘joy’ or ‘contentment’ or ‘well-being’ instead of happiness, that’s not really the point."

January 6, 2011 - The Honeycomb Valley Blog (Aus.) discusses The Economics of Happiness:

"Do we define ourselves as consumers…or as citizens? Do the things we buy ourselves bring true meaning to our (and other peoples’) lives, or just dilute our bank accounts, wellbeing and the earth’s resources? How does buying from a faceless corporation and supply chain stack up against sharing with a neighbour? What do we really need to live a good life? And how does what we buy today affect other communities around the world (human, plant and animal) and generations to come?"
